Peter Kretschmar ESA INTEGRAL Almost all my scientific research is done on accreting X-ray binaries, especially accreting X-ray pulsars. My specialty is the study of the so-called cyclotron lines found in the spectra of many X-ray pulsars as an effect of their huge magnetic fields and which can yield information on physical conditions in the emission regions. These studies involve mainly observations with RXTE and INTEGRAL. In addition, I am interested in the high mass stars accompanying the X-ray pulsars, i.e. in the physics of Be stars and the strong stellar winds of supergiant stars. For the latter, we have just had a very nice XMM observation of the X-ray pulaar Vela X-1 coming out of its regular eclipse.
