European Space Astronomy Centre (ESAC)
ESA, Villanueva de la Cañada, Madrid, Spain

Purpose and Goals

The European Space Astronomy Centre (ESAC) has the pleasure of announcing SciOps2011, a workshop dedicated to the science operations of space missions.

The workshop goals are to present the different approaches to science operations from a number of missions to see what we can learn from one another and to encourage further collaboration.

There will be talks on ESA and national missions covering a range of space-based science applications, but mainly astronomy and solar system science. The focus is primarily on missions in, or about to go into, operations and those that have recently been completed. The programme includes topics such as:

  • The Organisation of Science Operations
  • The Role of Science Data Centres and External Consortia
  • Science Operations from Small Missions to Observatory Class Facilities
  • Ensuring the Optimum Science Return
  • Future Directions in Science Operations and Archiving
