ESA Datalabs 2022 workshop
ESA/ESAC MADRID, SPAIN
24-25 NOVEMBER 2022
ESA Datalabs is quickly developing into a platform with the potential to be the backbone of many data-driven initiatives over the coming years. ESA Datalabs gives you a privileged position, bring your code directly to ESA’s infrastructure and execute it with direct access to ESA’s archives.
On one hand, ESA Datalabs provides access to applications or software tools executable from the user’s web browser. Datalabs range from specific desktop tools like Topcat, a well known astronomical tool to manipulate and visualize tables, to general-purpose, web-based applications like JupyterLab, widely adopted for notebook development in multiple science fields.
On the other hand, leveraging on the powerful infrastructure developed for the execution of Datalabs, the Pipeline catalogue provides capabilities for the execution of complex batch data processing workflows. Hence, Pipelines represent an extension of the Datalab concept, defined as a set of an input area, a sequence of processing stages in between (steps), and an output area
The scientific and citizen-centric applications unleashed by ESA Datalabs are endless. The first collaboration level derives from the possibility to launch computing elements mounting ESA Archives data volumes, or other ones made available by ESA teams such as the SPICE kernels data volumes. Along these lines, current catalogues include custom JupyterLabs, which feature notebooks shared with the community to show how to explore and analyse data in ESA archives. ESA Datalabs users can already benefit from a set of demonstrator Datalabs for multiple missions (Gaia, Juice, JWST, XMM, Herschel). Join us for this year’s ESA Datalabs workshop to receive an update on the status and plans for the project. We will share first insights from Beta-testers, provide hands-on training to familiarize you with current and future capabilities of the platform.
The first day of the event is going to be hybrid with remote connections possible to participate to the presentations. As the second day focusses more on hands-on activities it will be on-site only.
We are looking forward to collecting your feedback and ideas on how to progress ESA Datalabs development!
