Restaurant Tips

Basic Hints

Spanish meal times are much later than usual in most of Europe. It is not unusual, especially on weekends, to be able to have lunch up to 16:00 or even 17:00 but dinner will usually not be served before 21:00, sometimes only at 22:00. Bars will often sell small rations of simple food during the whole afternoon/evening.

Note that the majority of restaurants close on Sunday evening! You usually have a chance with chain restaurants (e.g. VIPS, Gino's) and restaurants in recreation zones.

From NH Hotel Monte Rozas

Partially due to the Spanish Civil War, partially due to the extremely rapid development of the area from small villages to heavily populated towns, there is little in the sense of nice town centers in the area.

The closest restaurant from the NH Hotel Monte Rozas is the Taberna Gaztelubide right opposite. This is an upmarket restaurant with basque style cuisine. Closed on Sunday evenings.

In a short distance by car, you can find the cinema and restaurant centre Heron City Las Rozas - see map1. While completely artificial and 'american' in style it does offer a quite decent selection of restaurants of various types, some with rather good quality and several places also open on Sunday evening. In the vicinity there is another zone with various restaurants marked in orange in the map. For example the Kyoto does decent asian cuisine (largely but not fully Japanese), if you are up for a change from Spanish.

Otherwise your best bet is probably to drive to Majadahonda. There are many bars and restaurants along its pedestrian main street Gran Via or the small streets going off from this. There is a well sign-posted parking just below Gran Via. Two nice restaurants which you might miss, as they are just off the main street but a bit hidden, are Salterius and Lisboa Antiga, thus we have marked them especially on map 2La Renta offers excellent and fresh Spanish products (close to the "Plaza Colon" roundabout). A bit further out ("Avenida de EspaƱa"), there are for example Pizzeria Jardin and Faro Vidio, which have received good feedback (see map 3).

Not far from there is the excellent La Nines restaurant (Calle Chiapas, 4). Else, you can also go to the new place full of restaurants and lounge bars, close to the train station (and the A6 exit towards Majadahonda-El Plantio), in the square delimited by "Calle del Parque", "Avenida de Juan Carlos I" and "Calle Norias" (map here ). Among them, the Xinito Japanese restaurant is quite original and good, but there are also great Mexican, Italian and Spanish places to eat in front of the park!
