Science Opportunity Analysis - JUICE
SCIENCE OPPORTUNITY ANALYSIS ('TOUR ATLAS')
REFERENCE TRAJECTORY: 141a (Crema 3.0)
This page provides information on the occurence and distribution of events driving the opportunity
of performing certain observations - ('when can be done what and under which geometrical conditions')
THE CONTENT OF THIS PAGE IS 'WORK IN PROGRESS' - PLEASE CONTACT THE SOC FOR ANY QUESTIONS - nicolas.altobelli@sciops.esa.int and cvallat@sciops.esa.int
The page contains:
Major events ordered chronologically
Stellar (and sun) occultations
Moon transits in front of Jupiter
More events coming soon...
MISSION GENERIC EVENTS
The table accesible through this link contains a list of events occurence that can be useful for high level science planning
FLYBYS LIST AND GEOMETRY
PERIJOVES AND APOJOVES
All_perijoves_apojoves_June_2029_Dec_2032
The following file provides a more detailed anlaysis of the Perijoves in 2029-2032, in particular with respect to overlapp with other moon's flybys. On the request of WG4, a time window of +-2 days around the perijove was considered and any moon close flyby occuring during this time window is flagged and its geometry computed (this included a flag whether or not this flyby occurs when the moon's is in Jupiter's shadow). Malargue passes occuring during the perijove are also indicated.

Current sheet crossing events (2030)
Khurana's 2009 model of the Jovian magnetic field is used to compute the events associated to the radial component of the B field changing sign.

Phase angle events
The following files provide a list of events corresponding to the crossing of different values of the solar phase angle with respect to the different moons. The sampling in phase values is in general 10 degrees, except below 10 degrees and above 170 degrees, because those regions can show dramatic variations in photometrie. A higher sampling in phase angle value was therefore used (5 degrees and 1 degree close to opposition). These files can used to pick up observation opportunties such as to build a phase curve by combining observations acquired over a mission phase.
Moon transit events
Those events correspond to the alignement of Jupiter, a moon and the spacecraft - in the first tables, only those events are selected which correspond to a ratio between the Jupiter disk and the moon's disk angular size, as seen from the spacecraft, of less than 20 (25 in the case of Io). In the second set of tables, all transit events are kept.
