Algorithm to compute the unrectified 2D spectrum for NIRSpec fixed-slits |
AUTHORS: |
C. Alves de Oliveira, G. Giardino |
ABSTRACT: |
This note describes the algorithm to compute the unrectified 2D spectrum for the NIRSpec fixed-slits, including the 2D subwindow extraction, and the mapping of the wavelength and spatial coordinates for each pixel in the spectrum. The algorithm is based on the one implemented in the NIRSpec IPS (instrument performance simulator) Pipeline Software (NIPS) used by the NIRSpec Science Operations team at ESA to analyse the IPS simulations and data acquired during NIRSpec calibration tests. TITLE: |
Assessing the impcat of performing no master bias subtraction when using the current linearity correction files |
AUTHORS: |
S.Birkmann |
ABSTRACT: |
In this document we assess the impact of using the current STScI pre-processing approach with the delivered NIRSpec linearity correction files both on the count rate and signal to noise. We find that the derived count rates are higher than with the SOT pre-processing approach, due to the over correction of the detector non linearity, and that the achieved signal to noise is slightly smaller, probably due to the impact of the non corrected pedestal in the STScI approach. The radiometric stability of the RCSS based on telemetry data |
AUTHORS: |
S. Birkmann |
ABSTRACT: |
This document assesses the radiometric stability of the RCSS based on cycle 1 telemetry data. We briefly describe the format of the used telemetry data and its origin. We find that, integrated over the ∼1 to ∼1.9 μm wavelength range, the RCSS is stable to 10−3 on time scales of hours. Furthermore, the observed drifts can be well modeled by an exponential function with root mean square residuals typically better than 10−4. Based on the findings in this note we recommend to use the high resolution Band I grating with the RCSS IFS3_N source for the simulation of exoplanet transit observations. |

Documentation for MSA-detect tool |
AUTHORS: |
G. Giardino |
ABSTRACT: |
In this note we give a brief introduction to the software tool MSA-detect. The main purpose of this tool is to derive the mapping betwen each MSA micro-shutter and the position of its image (when illuminated in imaging mode) onto the detector, in pixel coordinates. This mapping can then be used to identify failed or partially-failed open shutters in MSA all-closed exposures and closed shutters in all-open exposures. |
