2000 Leonid Campaign - The Netherlands

In 2000, Joe Zender participated in a campaign of the Dutch 'Werkgroep Meteoren', observing from close to Hoogersmilde. An attempt was made to perform multi-station observations, however, due to the weather conditions, this did not happen in the end. Still, several video tapes with meteors were recorded in this year and await analysis. Here is the old campaign page for historical reasons...
 

Overview over our campaign

The 'Werkgroep Meteoren', a Dutch meteor working group, did trigger the campaign this year. As a common effort, we intend to go out and observe in the nights from 16 to 17 November and from 17 to 18 November. We will observe from three different locations, separated by about 70km to 100km which will allow parallel observations with our camera equipment.

Detlef Koschny and Udo Telljohann will observe somewhere from Germany on their way back from a duty mission. ESA's science communication is on stand-by an waiting for information on 071 565 3851. Each of the three observation stations will be equiped with a image-intensified video camera.     How to reach our place in Hoogersmilde:

    Marc vroeg me je een routebeschrijving te sturen voor Hoogersmilde: 
    Het adres is: de Veldhuizen 33. 
    (De Veldhuizerweg is een eindje buiten het dorp, en loopt parallel aan de Drentse Hoofdvaart.) Als je vanuit Meppel langs de vaart H'smilde nadert zie je, (volgens mij net voor het bord 'Hoogersmilde', maar ik kan me vergissen, in elk geval een stukje voor de bebouwde kom) een wit restaurant aan je linkerhand. De weg waar dit restaurant aan ligt sla je in, (linksaf dus :) dit is de Bosweg. Je komt eerst langs een paar huizen, dan een stukje weiland, dan rij je een 'bosgebied' in. Als je langs vankantiecentrum 'het Drentse wold' (aan je rechterhand) bent gekomen (links is dan een soort bungalowpark in aanbouw) sla je de eerste weg rechts in. Aan je linkerhand zie je dan bos, aan je rechter een boerderij in een weiland. Als rechts ook bos begint is meteen na dat begin de 'oprit' naar het huisje. (Klein opritje dus!) De ingang naar het huisje is niet erg goed te zien, op de groene brievenbussen staan de huisnummers, maar als ik het me goed herinner staat er alleen nog een 3 op! Mocht het niet te vinden zijn, het telefoonnummer is: 0592 459776

The observation is planned with the software qricht. Using the input  leo.frm  the software produced the following result  qricht.out . With this output I used Guide7 to find the camera field-of-view on the night sky for all the 4 observation positions: 

Verder een routebeschrijving naar mijn (Michiel Brentjes) kamer, vanaf de A1: 

  • Verlaat de A1 via afslag 12 ("Bunschoten") 
  •  rij linksaf de N199, Bunschoterstraat of Amersfoortse straat,  op. 
  • volg deze weg voor 3.5 km 
  • ga bij de stoplichten linksaf de Maatweg op 
  • ga bij de eerste stoplichten rechtdoor 
  • ga bij de stoplichten op de driesprong voor de ophaalbrug naar links, de 
  • Ringweg Koppel op.
  • na 300-400 m buigt deze weg scherp naar links. 
  • ga bij de eerste stoplichten rechtdoor 
  • ga bij de tweede stoplichten naar rechts, de Meridiaan op. 
  • de tweede straat links is de Sextant. Ik woon op de bovenste 
  • (5e) verdieping. 
     

Vanaf de A28: 

  • Verlaat de A28 via aflag 8 ("Amersfoort") 
  • na +/- 700 m kom je bij een sporthal (links van de weg)  en een kanaal 
  • ga hier rechtsaf de Ringweg Kruiskamp op 
  • volg deze weg tot je onder een spoorbaan door rijdt. 
  • ga bij de eerste stoplichten rechtdoor 
  • ga bij de tweede stoplichten linksaf, de Meridiaan op. 
  • de tweede straat links is de Sextant. Ik woon op de bovenste 
  • (5e) verdieping.
