The Solar Orbiter Mission - Solar Orbiter
Welcome to ESA's Solar Orbiter Website for the Scientific Community
News alert: on 18 February 2025, Solar Orbiter completed a successful Venus Gravity Assist Maneuver, bringing the mission to its high latitude science phase. The spacecraft's orbit tilt will reach ~17º heliographic latitude.
News alert: Solar Orbiter's upcoming Remote-Sensing Windows (RSWs) observations will take place between 11 March 2025 – 25 April 2025.

The Solar Orbiter Mission
By approaching as close as 0.28 AU, Solar Orbiter will view the Sun with high spatial resolution and combine this with in-situ measurements of the surrounding heliosphere. Thanks to its unique orbit, Solar Orbiter will deliver images and data of the unexplored Sun's polar regions and the side of the Sun not visible from Earth.
