ESA co-funded Phd studentships

via the Open Space Innovation Platform (OSIP):  ideas.esa.int

The ESA Open Space Innovation Platform (OSIP) promotes new ideas for space technology and applications. The "ESA co-funding of PhD studentships" channel within the OSIP framework is relevant for Faculty members. It replaced the former PhD-funding opportunity available via the Networking/Partnering Initiative (NPI).

Anyone can submit a funding application in OSIP, which comprises a two step process:

  1. In the first step, a novel research idea is submitted on ideas.esa.int. On the website, go to the Open Discovery Ideas Channel and submit your idea. This requires a login in which ESA staff members can use their ESAAD account, while external submissions will need to register on the site.
  2. Successful proposers of ideas are then invited to provide a detailed proposal, including the commitment of the co-funding by the partner organisation. ESA co-funding is 50 % of the cost maximum and capped at 30000 Euros/year.

SCI-S may also consider funding strong proposals from internal applicants even if they are not successful on OSIP. Therefore Faculty members are strongly encouraged to inform the chair/sentinel of their Faculty about their proposal.
