XSAv9.4 release including on-the-fly data processing
A new version of the XMM-Newton Science Archive, XSAv9.4, is available at
https://www.cosmos.esa.int/web/xmm-newton/xsaThis release includes, among other improvements, the possibility to perform on-the-fly data processing with SAS through the Remote Interface for Science Analysis (RISA) server. It enables scientists to analyse data without any download and installation of data and software.
The analysis options presently available include extraction of spectra and light curves of user-defined EPIC source regions and full reprocessing of data for which currently archived pipeline products were processed with old SAS versions or calibration files. Scientists are reminded that the current pipeline is fully aligned with the most recent SAS and calibration, while the last full reprocessing of the archive was performed in 2013.
The on-the-fly data processing functionality in this release is an experimental version and we invite the community to test and let us know their results. We will make every effort to fix any encountered problem, but cannot promise our usual response time. Known issues and workarounds are described and will be updated in the 'Watchouts' section of the XSA web page above. Feedback on how this functionality should evolve will be highly appreciated and can be provided via the XMM-Newton Helpdesk or the Users' Group.
Yours sincerely,
XMM-Newton SOC
