XMM-NEWTON AO-20 CLOSURE

The XMM-Newton Twentieth Announcement of Opportunity (AO-20) closed on the 9th of October 2020.

In total, 447 valid proposals were received, 7 of them within the category of 'Multi-Year Heritage Programmes'. A total of 24.2 Ms were requested in this category, for which up to 6 Ms of observing time over at most three consecutive AOs will be available.

For the rest of the proposals (440) this Announcement of Opportunity covers a period of one year, with 12 Ms of observing time available for distribution. A total of 82.4 Ms of science time were requested. The over-subscription factor is 6.9.

A total of 47 proposals were received for Large Programmes, and 20 for Fulfil Programmes. Anticipated Target of Opportunity observations were requested in 66 proposals. For the joint programmes, 101 proposals were submitted: 56 request time for the XMM-NuSTAR programme, 25 for the XMM-HST programme, 15 for the XMM-SWIFT programme, 11 for the XMM-Chandra programme, 8 for the XMM-VLT programme, 7 for the XMM-NRAO programme, and 2 for the XMM-H.E.S.S programme,

SOC received proposals from 373 different principal investigators from 29 countries. The number of countries involved increases to 41 if co-investigators are taken into account as well. Considering principal investigators and co-investigators, about 1600 individual scientists were involved in the response to the twentieth Announcement of Opportunity.
