Welcome to the XMM-Newton Helpdesk

Questions can be submitted to the XMM-Newton HelpDesk:

    This interface is available for scientists having a Cosmos account, the same used to access the XMM-Newton Science Archive (XSA) or the Phase I Proposal Submision System (XIPS).

    Questions submitted through this form are by default public. They can be made private selecting this option in the "Visibility" drop-down menu at the bottom of the page.

    Registered individuals can search public tickets using the button "Requests" (XMM Community) at the top of the page.

  • Via e-mail to xmmhelp@sciops.esa.int

    Non registered users can submit questions only via e-mail to xmmhelp@sciops.esa.int.

    Questions submitted by e-mail are private.

The XMM-Newton HelpDesk is staffed Mon-Fri, 09:00-17:00 LT, except on ESAC public holidays.
Users should get a response within at most two working days.

Submitting a HelpDesk request

We advise users to make the (short) question the subject of the request.

Please send a separate request for each question. The message will receive a unique ID, by which it can be identified in the database.

The total size of the attachments should not exceed 50 MB. Messages having attachments larger than this limit will not be received.

Help with SAS

If you encounter problems in analyzing XMM-Newton data with the SAS software please try to give as much information as needed to reproduce your problem, including the following details:

  • Operating system
  • Output of the sasversion command
  • Observation identifier
