The workshop will take place at the European Space Astronomy Centre (ESAC) in Villanueva de la Cañada, near Madrid, in the main auditorium on the ground floor of the D Building (see map below).

Lunch will take place in the ESAC Canteen (F building in the map above). The daily menu can be found here.

Transport

Bus shuttle from Madrid (Moncloa) to ESAC

A free bus shuttle service is available from Madrid (Moncloa) to ESAC and back.

The bus time schedule and a registration form will be posted in due course.

The shuttle bus to ESAC will leave each morning from Hotel Exe Moncloa - Calle Arcipreste de Hita, 10 (see map below). At the end of the day, the bus will come back to Madrid, same location. Please be at the pick up point 5-10 min in advance as the bus will not wait for late participants.

Alternative transport to/from ESAC

Alhough we advise to make use of the bus shuttle service, details on how to get to ESAC independently can be found here.

Bus n. 623 (green buses) connects ESAC to the Moncloa station (Intercambiador de Moncloa, level -1, platofrm 38 on the 3rd island) in about 45 minutes following this timetable.

If you hire a car, you will need to go through the security gate at ESAC main entrance to be granted access to the site. Please allow for an extra ~ 10 min and bring a valid ID.

Getting around in Madrid

Madrid is served by an extensive Underground/Metro network running from 06:00 to 01:30.

The Moncloa metro station - at walking distance from the bus shuttle pick up point - is connected to lines 3 and 6 and to several bus lines.

Accommodation

The city of Madrid counts with a large number of hotel rooms offered in a wide rage of prices. Being a popular tourist destination, we recommend to book your accommodation well in advance of the workshop's dates. Many on-line reservation websites allow for free cancellation.

The shuttle bus will leave from and come back to Madrid at Calle Arcipreste de Hita 10, in front of Hotel EXE Moncloa. We recommend booking a hotel that is either in this area or with a metro connection to it (Moncloa Station).

Participants are free to choose their accommodation, and we kindly ask you to make your reservation directly with the hotel or airBnb. Popular websites include Booking and Airbnb.

Participants of previous workshop have recommended the following hotels: 

ESA has special agreements with some hotels of the Eurostarts Hotel Company which are listed in the table bellow. Special rates are only valid from Sunday to Thursday and might not be applicable on certain specific dates or periods. Please check with the Hotel specifying that you are visiting ESAC. Note that while the EXE Moncloa is located just in front of the shuttle bus pick up point in Madrid, most of the alternatives in the table do require independent transportation to/from ESAC.

If you prefer to reach ESAC independently - for example hiring a car - we recommend, besides the options above, to look for accommodation in the western part of Madrid or in one of the small towns nearest to ESAC such as Majadahonda, Las Rozas de Madrid, Villanueva de la Cañada, or Pozuelo de Alarcón, where the number of hotels is however more limited.
