INTEGRAL AO-20 general programme approved

14 December 2022  The INTEGRAL AO-20 General Programme, as recommended by the Time Allocation Committee (TAC) and approved by ESA's Director of Science (Prof. Günther Hasinger), has been released and the observers have been informed. The programme can be found here.

Happy 20th birthday, INTEGRAL!

17 October 2022  On this date, 20 years ago, INTEGRAL was launched at 01:33 UTC with a Proton rocket from Baikonur, Kazakhstan. INTEGRAL is still operating successfully, and continues to explore the most energetic radiation that comes from space.

INTEGRAL 2022 Conference program online, poster abstract submission & registration

26 September 2022 The program of the INTEGRAL 2022 Conference is now available online at:

https://www.cosmos.esa.int/web/integral-2022/programme

If you still wish to present a poster at the INTEGRAL 2022 Conference, you can still submit your abstract from:

https://www.cosmos.esa.int/web/integral-2022/abstracts

It is also still possible to register and take part in the scientific conference. We are looking forward to seeing you. Further details can be found at:

REMINDER: Abstract submission deadline for INTEGRAL 2022 Conference: 15 September

09 September 2022 This is to remind you that if you wish to present a talk or poster at the INTEGRAL 2022 Conference, you must submit your abstract by Thursday, September 15, 2022.

REMINDER: Early registration for the INTEGRAL Conference closes on SEPTEMBER 1

24 August 2022 The conference is intended to be a face-to-face meeting, re-enabling the long-missed networking possibilities and direct informal exchange on scientific and operational topics, and providing a forum to highlight scientific achievements and shape the future of the scientific landscape enabling multi-messenger and high-energy astronomical research. INTEGRAL Conference 2022: First Announcement and Registration

03 June 2022 We are happy to announce the conference Two Decades of High-Energy Astronomy with INTEGRAL that will take place this autumn at the European Space Operations Centre (ESOC) in Darmstadt during the week of October 17-21. Registration and abstract submission are open.

20th Announcement of Opportunity (AO-20): Preliminary submission statistics

14 April 2022 The deadline for the submission of proposals for AO-20 open time observations was on 1 April 2022, and all proposals are in the ISOC database. Below are some preliminary statistics on the proposals that have been received.

Total number of proposals
The total number of proposals received is 52. The total observing time requested is about 59 Msec (for all types of observation, i.e., fixed time, normal time, and ToO). Here, 10% of the requested total ToO time has been taken into account. Assuming up to about 21 Msec of observing time (for new observing proposals) will be available for the AO-20 observing programme (12 months duration), this corresponds to an oversubscription in time by a factor of 2.8. The non-ToO proposals are requesting data rights for 316 sources in total.

Proposals per category
In the following table we give the breakdown of number of proposals as a function of the proposal category. Note that the numbers on requested observing times do include ToO proposals, but it has been assumed here, that a typical ToO proposal requests about 10% of its total observing time as entered into PGT from all the candidate sources included in a ToO proposal.

Scientific Category Number of proposals Requested observing time (Ms)
includes ToO times x 10%
Galactic Astronomy 27 44
Extragalactic Astronomy 17 7
Nucleosynthesis and diffuse
continuum/line emission
8 8
Total 52 59

osa 11.2 now available

4 April 2022  A new OSA version has been released by the ISDC. While the software itself contains minor updates, the most significantt changes are related to the IBIS/ISGRI calibration which has now been standardised across the entire mission. This update was possible thanks to the work of Volodymyr Savchenko at ISDC, with support provided by ISOC, IBIS and SPI instrument teams. It provides a substantial improvement to the IBIS/ISGRI energy reconstruction, efficiency, and spectral response. The software and calibration files can be downloaded from the ISDC.

INTEGRAL AO-20 CALL FOR OBSERVING PROPOSALS IS OPEN!

2 March 2022  Today, the ESA Director of Science (Prof. Guenther Hasinger) released the 20th Announcement of Opportunity (AO-20) for observing proposals with INTEGRAL.

This announcement solicits proposals for observations to be carried out from January 2023. Proposers from all over the world are welcome to participate. All proposals will be subject to an independent peer review by the INTEGRAL Time Allocation Committee (TAC). The deadline for proposal submission is Friday 1 April 2022, 14:00 CEST.

More information can be found on the AO-20 page.

ISOC AO-19 observations underway and preparations for AO-20
