1/5 of the GUMS-10 Milky Way catalogue
 

GUMS-10 is the 10th version of the Gaia Universe Model Snapshot, a simulation of the expected contents of the Gaia catalogue run at the MareNostrum supercomputer.

This plot, created using TOPCAT, shows 1/5 of the entire GUMS-10 Milky Way catalogue in four dimensions (right ascension, declination, distance in parsecs, and radial velocity in km/s). It took TOPCAT about 10 minutes---and 30 GB of memory---to create the plot from a list of 250 million stars.
