Gaia telescope light path
 

This image shows how the mirrors of a Gaia 3D payload model guide a laser beam to the spacecraft's focal plane. Each Gaia telescope comprises four identical sets of mirrors. Two additional mirrors are used by both telescopes. The experiment, which simulated the light path of one of the telescopes, was conducted at the Optics Faculty of Santiago de Compostela University (Spain) by Minia Manteiga, DPAC member in the Gaia Galicia Group, and Eva Acosta.
